Breaking Bad’s premise is that of a Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who discovers he has inoperable lung cancer. Everything in Walt’s life is ironic and this is no exception. Terminal lung cancer for a guy who never smoked a day in his life? Right. The chemistry teacher realizes he must provide for his wife, teen-age son and baby yet to be born. Walt knows his life on earth is limited and he must make as much money as he can to take care of his family. This regular guy decides to cook meth with Jessie (Aaron Paul), a past druggie student of his who makes his living selling meth. Walt transforms from a bland, unhappy, unassuming guy into a wheeler dealer, a fearless purveyor of drugs who is finally living life to the fullest.

Walt’s wife Skylar is confounded by Walt’s determination to spend as little as possible on treating his illness. Skylar is also confused by Walt, a bland but reliable guy who suddenly disappears for days or weeks at a time, causing problems with their marriage. Walt’s teen-age son Walt Jr. who prefers to be called Flynn instead of Walt Jr., has cerebral palsy but deals with life the best he can. Walt and Walt Jr. have problems relating, even more so as Walt’s life and personality changes radically over time.

Walt and Jesse butt heads often as Walt leads them deeper and deeper into higher level drug trafficking. Walt begins to enjoy his role as a kingpin of the drug trade, relishing the power of his position. Oh, and Walt’s brother-in-law happens to be a DEA agent. Walt constantly walks a fine line of being found out, possible violence, breaking the law and keeping his marriage together.

The third season of Breaking Bad is scheduled to begin in March of 2010. If you haven’t caught this show don’t miss one of the best series on television. Catch Breaking Bad March 2010, Sundays at 10:00 p.m. on AMC.
