30 Rock: Season 4 Episode 8: Secret Santa
Liz starts her Christmas gift list for TGS stars and staff. Liz realizes since Jack is her friend she should buy him a gift too. Liz asks Jack what he wants for Christmas, explaining this is the method her family uses so that way everyone gets what they want. Jack tells Liz she should be able to discover what he likes by knowing him. Jack creates a social networking profile on YouFace and gets “finger tagged” from his high school crush, Nancy Donavan. Liz tells Jack her high school crush was Larry Wilcox of the cop show CHiPs. Jack sets up a meeting with Nancy, who is visiting New York with her two teen-age sons. The thought of seeing Nancy again cheers Jack up for the holidays.
Pete is tired of Jenna always begging out on charity giving from the TGS staff. Pete hears the new cast member Danny singing like an angel on the set and plans to have Danny sing the Christmas solo instead of Jenna. When Danny realizes Pete is trying to upset Jenna by giving him the solo he suggests they do a duet instead. Pete smiles and agrees, knowing Jenna hates to share the spotlight with anyone.
Dwight tells the camera he’s just too tired to continue with his diabolical plot to get Jim fired, at least for the holiday season. Phyllis comes to work dressed as Santa, she has dreamed of playing Santa for years and now her wish is fulfilled. Michael usually plays Santa and is upset by a woman Santa at the office. Phyllis made a deal with Jim to play Santa this year. Michael demands that Jim tell Phyllis she can’t be the office Santa but Jim tells Michael Phyllis is Santa for this year’s office party. An upset Michael tries to spoil the office party and calls Phyllis “Tranny Claus”.
Shirley is throwing a Christmas party for her fellow Spanish Club members. Shirley believes her classmates are the only real family she has left after her divorce. She gives out Jesus bracelets saying “WWBJD” — what would Baby Jesus do? which the gang reluctantly puts on to be polite.
Liz’s new talk show Dealbreakers is scheduled to air. Jack eagerly looks forward to the new show he created. Liz starts daydreaming about how her life will change if the show is a success. Liz dreams of her fantasy Astronaut boyfriend, her blond makeover and nannies taking care of her baby.
Dwight schemes to set Jim up by talking Andy into suggesting an employee of the month program. Dwight lets Andy think its Andy’s idea. Dwight’s plan is to have Jim fired by David Wallace in six hours time. Michael is facing his worst offense ever. Michael promised ten years ago he would pay college tuition for a class of fifteen children if they kept up their grades in school. The ten years are up as the high school kids are ready to graduate and it is time to tell the kids the truth. Michael is terrified and begs Pam to go with him but she sends Erin instead to make sure Michael tells them the truth.
Dean Pelton and Annie discuss the new upcoming Greendale STD fair campus event, organized by Annie. Dean Pelton and Annie wear STD t-shirts to promote the event. Annie passes out fortune cookies with fortunes saying, “You’ll get AIDs unless you go to the STD fair”. Jeff and Britta are introduced to Dean Pelton’s new airhead administrative assistant who Jeff notes is also pretty hot.
The Simpsons are leaving from their ski weekend early Sunday morning to beat the weekend traffic. Bart and Lisa protest leaving so early and Marge looks half asleep. Homer gets on the freeway and finds that everyone else away for the weekend is leaving at the same time, bogging them down for a long trip home. As hours go by, Bart, Lisa and Maggie play an annoying game that makes noise and repeats its instructions over and over. After hours of noise from the toy Homer has had enough and grabs the toy, smashing it at his feet in the car. When Homer looks up he sees a semi-truck coming straight at them and realizes the toy is wedged under his gas peddle, all he can do is turn the wheel. They careen off the highway and the family ends up on an icy lake from the accident. Cleatus, a local hillbilly, drags the unconscious Simpsons out of their car and takes them to his cabin in the snowy hills.
As Liz snores away her workout time on the couch, a real estate agent barges into her apartment with prospective clients. Liz finds out her building is becoming a condo and she can buy her apartment instead of rent. Liz turns to Jack for business advice. The ever shrewd Jack tells Liz condos are at a premium in New York and it makes good business sense to buy not just one but two apartments to invest her money and enlarge her living space. Jack advises her to buy out one of her neighbors apartments.
Dwight arrives at the office dressed as recyclops, a character he created for Earth Day. Every year Dwight’s costume gets more elaborate until he becomes a transformer type hero for the earth, wreaking havoc in the office. Michael has been invited to speak at Dunder Mifflin’s shareholder’s meeting and is excited he is being recognized by the company. Michael practices his speech and gets advice from the office staff, who suggest he does not twirl after giving his speech.
Dean Pelton announces the college is getting involved in Green week and changing the college’s name to Environdale. The students point out that their college is already named Greendale. Dean Pelton tells the students Green Day will be playing at the event.
