Ted, Marshall and Lily start noticing how complacent Barney and Robin are lately, they are in a rut in their relationship. They don’t seem to care much about how they look or what they do, preferring to sit, watch movies and veg on the couch. Barney shows up bearing his collection of porn and decides to give Ted his collection, which shocks the gang. Ted notices Barney has gained some weight, also known as a “relationship gut”.
Future Ted talks about Robin growing up in Canada. The gang is at McLaren’s. Robin compares America to Canada saying Canada is the best. Barney starts the crowd at McLaren’s bar chanting USA, but Robin can’t get the crowd to chant “Canada” and figures they won’t just chant anything. Barney gets the crowd to chant “shrimp fried rice” to make his point.
Ted, Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin are hanging out at MacLaren’s bar. Ted is dressed in tweed and hopes being dressed in his “professor tweed” will help him meet women. Barney jokes about Ted’s professor look and says no one will want to get together with him dressed that way. Marshall and Lily ask new couple Barney and Robin to a “double date” at Marshall and Lily’s place and they say yes. Ted’s narration warns of horrible times at Marshall and Lily’s place with flashbacks of past parties with bored guests.
