Leno’s Star-Studded Lineup Impressive for Tonight Show Return

lenotonightshowdeskJay Leno takes on The Tonight Show’s hosting duties again on March 1st. NBC is pushing top name stars and atheletes to kick-start the show with Leno to combat bad publicity. The cancellation of Leno’s primetime show, The Jay Leno Show, and subsequent disaster moving The Tonight Show’s timeslot in order to keep both Leno and Conan O’Brien on the roster, only to lose O’Brien in the process, had long time viewers complaining and fans of O’Brien protesting NBC’s actions.

Leno’s guests for the premiere week of The Tonight Show include former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, gold medal Olympians Apolo Anton Ohno, Shaun White and Lindsey Vonn, American Idol singer Adam Lambert, the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore, country singer Brad Paisley and American Idol judge Simon Cowell. Leno’s upcoming guests in the following weeks include Morgan Freeman, Kim Kardashian, Jamie Foxx and Dakota Fanning.

The controversy surrounding the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore and recent comments by American Idol judge Simon Cowell should intrigue viewers and provide some colorful moments during the first week of the show. The combination of Sarah Palin and Adam Lambert booked on the same night, along with the fact that Palin’s first interview on a late-night talk show is the rival to David Letterman’s show, with whom Palin has feuded with in the past, might pique viewer interest. This could be good programming or clever fanning of the flames to gain viewership from bad PR that might result in lower ratings than competitor Letterman’s show.

The Simpsons Season 21 Episode 13: The Color Yellow

elizasimpsonandvirgil
When Miss Hoover assigns the class to write a paper on their family tree, Lisa is excited to find out what famous people she is related to. Lisa is disappointed to find out there are only scoundrels associated with the Simpson side of the family. Lisa searches the attic to see if any other family history is packed away there. Lisa finds her ancestor Eliza Simpson’s diary and is thrilled to find that Eliza was part of the Underground Railroad, a group that helped slaves escape to freedom. As Lisa reads the diary out loud she relives the story as Eliza Simpson. Lisa discovers one of her ancestors, Virgil Simpson, was a slave. Lisa exclaims they are 1/64 black. Bart says “So that’s why I’m so cool”, while Lisa says “And that’s why my jazz is so smooth”. In typical Simpsons social commentary, Homer says “And that’s why I earn less than my white co-workers.”

In a flashback, Eliza discovers an evil slave owner (Mr. Burns) bribes her father (Homer) to give up Virgil, a slave hiding in their shed, for fried dough bits (donuts). Eliza runs to Virgil to warn him and they escape from the slave owners men, hiding in the bushes. As Lisa reads the final pages of the diary, the pages turn to dust. Lisa can’t stand that she doesn’t know the rest of the story. When Marge suggests they go to the library to do more research on Eliza Simpson, Lisa is hopeful they will find more about their family tree.

American Pickers on History Channel

americanpickersAmerican Pickers is a new show on the History Channel. Pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz of Antique Archaeology are recycling American antiques one pick at a time. The pickers aim is to find old collectables that other collectors are looking for. Mike and Frank drive the backroads from coast to coast, tranforming what some consider junk into collectibles. What others see as junk the American Pickers see as a goldmine. The world of picking involves finding everyday items in people’s barns, garages, junkyards, attics and basements. Mike and Frank meet up with friendly folk as well as not so interested customers who won’t sell them a thing.

Antique pickers are a special breed of antique dealers with a specific method to finding collectible memorabilia. Every time the pickers meet collectors and regular folk they discover unique and historic stories they share about their found items. Part of the fun of the series is to see the rooms full of possible treasure each picking outing uncovers. Some items come from regular folks while others come from collectors who can’t keep everything they’ve found; some items are historical artifacts while others are just plain funky and collectible.

Betty White: Having The Best Year Ever

Screen Actors Guild Awards ArrivalsThe campaign to have Betty White host SNL is raging on, with 406,756 fans signed up as of today, urging SNL to have her as a host for the show. Fresh off receiving the lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actor’s Guild award, White is busy as ever.

In an interview, the 88-year-old White commented on the Facebook situation. “I’m just amazed,” White said from Las Vegas, having been honored earlier that day by the Morris Animal Foundation at the P&G Pet Care luncheon. “I would think by now that they’ve had such an overdose of Betty White that they’d be throwing rocks instead.”

ABC’s Diane Sawyer interviewed White yesterday about being the toast of social networking. White called herself a “technological spaz,” amazed at the Facebook fan club and stated “ridiculous; they just dig old ladies.” A typical Betty White comment…how can you not like her?

SNL Alumni Upcoming Gigs on HBO and NBC

ferrellmckaySNL alumni Tina Fey and Will Ferrell are keeping busy this year. SNL alum Will Ferrell’s show, Funny or Die Presents, premieres at midnight this Friday, February 19th on HBO. Funny or Die Presents is a new half hour comedy series highlighting a mix of professionally created and user-generated content from Ferrell and comedy partner Adam McKay’s comedy video website. Ferrell and McKay along with HBO manage to merge TV with the internet with hilarious results.

Ferrell and McKay worked together as writer and director on Saturday Night Live in the late 1990s. Later, McKay and Ferrell teamed up in comedies like Step Brothers and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

Ferrell and McKay co-created Funny or Die in 2007. “The whole concept of Funny or Die…was the idea that people could have a place to put up whatever they wanted to put up with no notes and no filter,” writer-director Adam McKay said. “The TV show came out of that same spirit.”

Upcoming weekly shows will include videos starring Zach Galifianakis, Wayne Newton, Don Cheadle, Zooey Deschanel, John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell.

Tina Fey-Sarah PalinBesides her usual gig on 30 Rock, former SNL head writer and cast member Tina Fey is set to host Saturday Night Live in April 2010. There is speculation she will reprise her famous Sarah Palin impersonation if the skit passes muster with Lorne Michaels. “It’s inevitable that we’ll try it, at least,” Fey said in an interview Tuesday.

“We’ll see if it makes it to air” the comedian said in a recent interview with The Associated Press. Fey’s impersonation of former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was a huge hit with viewers of SNL and during the 2008 campaign season, drawing huge ratings for the show. “It was the strangest thing that’s ever happened to me,” said Fey. “I’ve never had anything fall in my lap like that. Everything is usually me trying to convince the people of Earth that it’s OK for me to perform…that felt like the opposite.”

Viewers will remember Palin’s cameo on SNL appearing with Fey in October 2008. Palin stated in her book “Going Rogue” she grew up watching SNL, and would appear on the show again if asked.

Mike and Geoff are inventors who design and build vehicles ranging from high-speed tanks to subterranean rovers. The brothers happen to be married to two sisters, Tracy and Tammy, who work in the company office.

Mike and Geoff rely on their hard working team to help them create cutting-edge vehicles. The deadlines are often tight and testing must be done on these extreme vehicles before they are shipped out. Testing can be complex, requiring riding over rough terrain to blowing up explosives under the vehicle.

The Howe brothers have created a number of extreme vehicles used by the military, SWAT and law enforcement agencies. The Ripsaw is the original vehicle created by the brothers, making them famous internationally. The Ripsaw turn on a dime, goes from zero to 50mph in 3.5 seconds, and can scale a 30-foot 45-degree hill. $1.5 million may seem like a lot of money to produce the Ripsaw but it is cheap in comparison to other vehicles on the market.
